How do I repaint patio chairs that have those vinyl strips on them?

I have a patio set that I would like to repaint a different color. The table is easy but the chairs have those vinyl strips across them to support the chair cushions. Can I remove and replace them or do I just have to paint over them and hope for the best?

1. It will depend on how good you are at what you do. if you think you can remove the vinyl and put it back on, go for it. If not paint over them. check to see how the vinyl strips are held on to the chairs, that should tell you if you can handle the job or not. And as all ways check with your hardware store saleman.
