- Journalists are always looking for an unusual angle. Dog bit man is not a story, but man bit dog is. Many stories come from readers who ring in with their stories and many come from contacts that journalists have carefully built up over they years. A key to a successful journalism career is to have a fat contact book. How do they present it? In journalism everything is simple. It is the job of the journalism to take the most complicated of subjects and make it easy for the reader to understand. It also has to be "interesting". The best part of the story at the top (known as the inverted triangle) which encourages the reader to read on. Readers have a very short attention span and it's important to grab their attention with a snappy headline and a good lead paragraph
