Press Release?
I run a small shopfitting company and I am just coming to the end of my first year of trading. Is there any way I can get a free press release?

- Getting a Press Release is easy - you write it yourself and release it to the press. You need to write something brief saying that your firm "is celebrating a first successful year of trading" and saying something about what you've achieved in that year. Send it to local Press and radio. Don't forget to include details of how they can contact you.
- You can write a press release for your business. You just need to come up with something newsworthy and submit it to editors for publication. Unfortunately, you have no control over if it makes it in the papers or not. You need to come up with an angle that would be interesting to journalists and the people that read their publications.
- You can always get a free press release as long as you have something for the audience of the media you wish to use. It could be interesting information or discount or any thing that is of value to the reader/listner or viewer of the media.
- Do an on-line search to get some samples for writing your release. You have to research the types of reporters and publications that you think will cover your story and send the release directly to them. I'm not sure that a press release is the best tactic for you to take. You might want to simply come up with a story angle and pitch it directly to your neighbourhood/community newspaper editor. You might want to consider holding some kind of event that might be newsworthy. Send out a press release (or simply make some phone calls to the newspaper, again depending on how big your community is and how busy the paper is) with the details and you may even end up with a photographer there. Involve kids and animals (the more exotic, the better). Always makes for a good picture.
